History

This African-themed deluxe resort, situated next to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, opened its doors on April 16, 2001. Providing guests with the chance to observe wildlife grazing near their rooms and in public areas, the resort offers a unique experience of an African savanna. In 2008, it became part of the Disney Vacation Club with 109 rooms. The Kidani Village, a separate building with over 300 villas, a new pool, and additional savanna views, was constructed in 2009, leading to the renaming of the main lodge as Jambo House.

The resort features a total of three 11-acre savannas that host a diverse array of African mammals and birds, including addax, Ankole cattle, bongo, blesbok, eland, gemsbok, Grant's zebra, greater kudu, impala, okapi, red river hog, reticulated giraffe, Thomson's gazelle, waterbuck, white-bearded wildebeest, Abyssinian ground hornbill, blue crane, East African crowned crane, greater flamingo, Marabou stork, ostrich, pink-backed pelican, and Rüppell's griffon vulture.
